Which would you say is a better bet for an inexpensive oldish small car
for a new young driver to buy? A Yaris or a Polo ?

Toyotas seem to go on forever. The three cylinder VW/Skoda engines seem to
have some issues at higher mileages.

After watching the video link above ' 10 Best first cars' the second
best car he chose was was the Suzuki Swift.
He cautions at 6 min 50seconds about avoiding ones with a whining
gearbox or pedal thrust bearing noise on the clutch.
Are these known problems with the Swift ? I have always thought Suzuki
to be long lasting.
